Ko Thein Lin (also known as Kim Eric), the younger son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has urged ASEAN special envoy Maria Theresa Lazar to request that Min Aung Hlaing allow regular direct contact with his mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Ko Thein Lin said that allowing family members to contact one another is a basic human right and is not a political favor.

Ko Thein Lin also noted that ASEAN's Five-Point Consensus calls for an immediate end to violence and for dialogue involving all stakeholders, and that ASEAN has urged the release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

In addition, he called for an immediate halt to the killings and the swift release of detained political prisoners, and said that accountability must come before any formal recognition of the military regime.
