Two women on their way to the pre-dawn market in Hpakant, Kachin State, were shot by the junta military, according to local residents.

At around 4 a.m. this morning, October 21, the two women traveling to the pre-dawn market in Lone Khin village, a jade-mining area, were fired upon by junta troops stationed at the Lone Khin hospital compound, it is learned.

"They went to the market around 4 a.m., the time [the military] has designated and announced. Near that checkpoint, their motorbike ran out of fuel, so the two of them were pushing it when they were shot at. One was hit in the chest and legs; one was hit in the calf bone," a local resident said.

Due to the shooting, Daw Moe Moe Htun, 40, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and Ma Myint Myint Moe, around 20 years old, sustained gunshot wounds to her calf, and both are currently receiving medical treatment, it is learned.

After a combined office in Hpakant town was attacked by gunfire, a nighttime curfew was issued from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., and because junta troops have been firing indiscriminately at people out around 4 a.m., some have been hit by bullets. Due to such indiscriminate shooting, people traveling to the market in the early morning are worried and alarmed that they may be shot on the road, it is learned.

In addition, at around 5 p.m. yesterday, October 20, junta troops staying inside the Super Green Company compound in front of the Moe Si Sar Myanmar Han fuel station robbed a male traveler of 500,000 kyats, it is also learned.
