Seven young men abducted by private cars in nighttime snatch operations in Yangon within two days
October 8
According to reports released by the Rangoon Scout Network, incidents of young people walking on the streets of Yangon being snatched and arrested by private cars at night, as well as raids into their homes, have been occurring continuously.
Around 8:30 PM on October 7, three young men standing near the intersection of West 50th Street and Malar Myaing 6th Street in Ward 16, Hlaing Township, were approached by a black Honda Fit car along with police, forcibly dragged into the vehicle, and then driven away at high speed toward Parami Road, it is learned.
Similarly, around 11:30 PM on October 6, three men in their 30s walking near the corner of Tapin Shwe Htee Street on Bayint Naung Road in North Dagon Township were surrounded, beaten, and arrested by members of the military junta forces who arrived in military vehicles as well as a white Alphard, and were dragged into the car and taken away, it is learned.
Prior to this incident, around 10:00 PM on October 6, a man around 30 years of age residing near Kamayut railway station by the bus stop on Station Road in Hlaing Township was arrested with a raid into his home, reportedly for military conscription.
Currently in Yangon, as the military junta and its subordinate groups are desperately in need of manpower for new military conscription batches, snatch arrests of young people are being carried out more openly.
In particular, they are increasingly using private cars and even plainclothes personnel to wait and surveil, ambushing and arresting young people at street corners and intersections, as well as conducting raids into homes under the guise of checking guest lists.
