In Ayeyarwady Region, a boat carrying three locals capsized this morning on the Ngathaingchaung-Aingthapyu road, and only one body has been recovered so far.
The capsizing occurred this morning, August 31, and of the three people on board, only one body has been recovered while the remaining two are still missing.
"From what we initially know, the deceased was a donor who came to give donations to flood victims. Two villagers from Kyatkwon village are missing," a local said.
The Ngathaingchaung-Aingthapyu road is submerged, and travel is only possible by motorboat. In some areas, the current is so strong that even rescue boats find it difficult to navigate, according to reports.
"Please wear life jackets; it's not easy if something happens. Even locals are in danger. The current is unpredictable and very strong. We are still searching for the two missing people. Only one body has been recovered so far," another local added.
The missing individuals are reportedly from Kyatkwon village. On the night of August 27, a fishing boat also capsized near the Ywarthitkon bridge in Ngathaichchaung town, and one of the two men on board drowned and went missing; his body was found two days later.
As of now, at least 14 people have died from drowning in Ayeyarwady Region, according to reports.
