Underage child thieves becoming increasingly common in Yangon

Residents have reported, along with CCTV footage, that an underage child thief has been going around stealing items from apartments in the Kyansit Min housing complex in Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon.

"He's a hardened child thief who even climbs up to the upper floors to steal. He's been roaming the buildings in Kyansit Min, Hlaingthaya, stealing bicycles. This time it was my bike he stole. I posted the CCTV footage so people would know, because I'm worried someone else will be next after me. Sharing the video can help people," a woman whose bicycle was stolen said on her social media page.

Under Min Aung Hlaing's coup government, even school-age children have been committing thefts and robberies, and it is found that children are among the most involved in robberies and killings in major cities including Yangon.

In a recent armed robbery at a building-materials shop in Pakokku, an eighth-grade student was reportedly among the perpetrators.
