Search Continues for Missing Youth Swept Away in Yaykyi Creek

In Einme Township, Ayeyarwady Region, the body of a young man who was swept away by the current has still not been found despite search efforts continuing until today, according to reports.

At around 7:15 PM on August 22, while heavy rain was causing flooding in Sinku Ward, Einme Town, two young men were crossing through the water to reach their uncle's home when they were swept away by the current, according to reports.

"They were going to their uncle's house for dinner. The current was strong on the way, so both of them were swept into the water. One of them got caught on a bamboo plant and we managed to rescue him. The other one hasn't been found yet as of this morning," a local resident said.

Immediately after the incident, rescue teams and locals searched and managed to rescue one young man who was clinging to a bamboo plant, but the other remains missing as search efforts continue until this morning, according to reports.

"For the missing boy, they are still searching to recover his body. It has been raining continuously. The water level is still fluctuating irregularly," a local resident said.

Since July 30, a breach in the Ngawun River embankment in Einme Township caused river water to rise, leading to flooding and inundation in Einme Township as well as in Lemyethna, Ngathaingchaung, Hinthada, Kyonpyaw, and Kyaunggon Townships, according to reports.

According to the military junta's announcement, 286 sheet piles (iron rods) need to be driven to seal the Ngawun River embankment breach, but as of August 19, only 78 had been driven.
