At least five civilians were killed when two bombs exploded in the heart of Sittwe town, Rakhine State, during a busy period, it is reported.

Around 8 am today, October 23, two bombs exploded near the Shwe Nga grocery junction on Min Bar Gyi Road in Maw Leik Ward and in Kyaung Tat Road Ward in Sittwe town, Rakhine State, killing five people, including four women, on the spot, and the death toll could rise, it is reported.

"Two bombs went off when people were crowded. One man from the tea shop, a glutinous rice seller, and three other women — four women died. Right now everything is in chaos, so the exact number is not yet known; the number will be higher," a local said.

In villages around Sittwe township, there have been clashes between the junta military and the Arakan Army (AA), and Sittwe town has been surrounded and blockaded by the DDSI headquarters and the Northwestern Military Command (NaMaKha), it is reported.
