October 5
Skeletons of local residents who were massacred by the military junta have been found in Wet Poke Village, Myaing Township, Magway Region, according to a statement released yesterday, October 4, by the Anya Myay Civil Society Organization - Myaing.
On June 9, 2023, a military junta column coming from Industrial 2 to the Letpadaung oil field arrested a total of 12 people — 9 residents from Gwe Kone Village, 1 resident from Ma Gyi Kone Village, 1 resident from Than Chaung Village, and 1 resident from Ma Gyi Kan Village, it is said.
The Anya Myay Civil Society Organization - Myaing has informed that the 12 arrested residents were killed on June 11, 2023, as learned from seized notebooks.
Revolutionary forces captured Wet Poke Village in 2024 and searched for the site of the mass killing during a clearance operation, but it is said that a local resident searching for mushrooms found it on October 4, 2026.
When local officials excavated the site, they found the skeletons of 12 bodies from two graves, and it is said that the manner of killing was cruel, with victims bound with rope and their faces covered.
Because identity documents such as national registration cards, student cards, and birth certificates were found with the bodies, it was learned that they were residents arrested from Gwe Kone Village, it is said.
According to photo records released by the Anya Myay Civil Society Organization - Myaing, those who were massacred were Aung Zin Hein (26 years old), U Kyaw Day (51 years old), Min Zaw Oo (42 years old), Aung Moe (39 years old), U Oh (61 years old), Htay Myint (55 years old), Thaw Zin Htaik (15 years old), San Lin Maung (42 years old), Phyo Wai Maung (38 years old), Htun Thein (48 years old), and Ohn Lin (29 years old).
The Anya Myay Civil Society Organization - Myaing has informed that the perpetrators of this crime were led by Win Ngwe, the leader of the Pyu Saw Htee in Wet Poke Village, and Bo Bo Hpyu, who was assigned to Wet Poke Village.
