The Lower Paunglaung Dam in Zeyar Thiri Township, Naypyidaw, has reached its full water level and has begun overflowing from the spillway starting at approximately 7:00 AM today, August 31, according to reports.
Although water is overflowing from the spillway, the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department has announced that there is no need to worry about flooding along the Paunglaung River, as water is being systematically regulated and released depending on the inflow conditions.
As of approximately 8:45 AM today, August 31, the overflow discharge from the spillway is flowing at 2,050 cubic feet per second. Compared to the record-high flow of 56,681 cubic feet per second in 2024, the current overflow situation is described as being at a very low level.
Furthermore, the department has announced that the dam and spillway are in good structural condition, water is being systematically regulated and released depending on inflow conditions, and timely updates will be provided.
