According to a statement released today, September 30, by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the small storm that moved in from Myanmar's interior continued advancing northwest and has now weakened into a strong low-pressure area near northern Myanmar, southeastern Bangladesh, India's Mizoram State, and the northern Bay of Bengal, according to an assessment by meteorologist U Win Naing.

The low-pressure area will continue moving north-northwest toward Mizoram, Tripura, and southeastern Bangladesh, and within the next 24 hours it will gradually weaken into a low-pressure area and dissipate, it is said.

Between October 1 and 2, the low-pressure system will dissipate over land and the monsoon winds will also weaken, so rainfall across the entire country of Myanmar will become very scarce, it is said.

Between October 3 and 4, upper Sagaing Region and Kachin State may see light to moderate rain, while most remaining regions and states will see no rain or little rain, it is said.

Between October 5 and 6, some easterly waves and clouds may move in, so eastern Upper Myanmar and the southern coastal areas may see scattered, intermittent rain again, but there is no situation in which very heavy rain is likely, it is said.

In Bago Region, Yangon Region, Mon State, Tanintharyi Region, and Kayin State, starting from October 1, both the monsoon winds and the low-pressure system will disappear, so rainfall will become scarce, it is said.

In Kayah State, the small storm will weaken and dissipate by October 3, and the monsoon winds will also weaken, so rainfall will become scarce, it is said.

Between October 4 and 6, easterly waves from upper Thailand may intensify and move in, so along the southern and eastern border areas of Kayah State, including Hpasawng, Bawlake, Mese, and Shadaw, scattered moderate rain may fall again, according to an assessment by meteorologist U Win Naing.
