Bridge crossing hours extended in Mon State, it is said
October 5
It is reported that crossing hours at the two Thanlwin bridges and Attaran bridge in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, will be extended beyond the previously designated times.
This morning on October 5, during the fourth regular session of the Mon State Government Parliament under the junta that seized power, State Parliament representative No. (1) for Paung Township U Than Khaing asked whether the opening hours of the Thanlwin bridge would be extended, and a person called the state minister replied that instead of the previously designated 5 AM to 8 PM, it would be extended to open from 4 AM to 9 PM.
"Extending the crossing hours is good. But at the checkpoints, the military and police cite security concerns and are present. The other day, it was like they were confiscating motorcycle licenses, like they were searching for goods, and they included everything — they wouldn't let people go back easily, so we were quite frightened," said a Mawlamyine resident.
The Thanlwin Bridge (Chaungzon), which connects Mawlamyine and Bilu Island in Mon State, and the Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine), which connects Mottama and Mawlamyine, had their hours changed and were closed starting August 13, 2025, last year, by the junta side citing security reasons, and at today's session it was said that crossing hours would be extended.
