Basic military training has begun for the first time for university students in Magway town, Magway Region, and preparations are being made to provide military training to middle and high school students as well, it is learned.

Basic military training courses were started at local military camps beginning October 19, and Basic Military Training Batch (1) has begun instruction at Magway Battalion 301 in Magway town, it is learned.

"I just see it as preparing to send children down the path to death; the talk about sports spirit and good health is just rhetoric. After they couldn't get people to recruit for military service, they are molding students into shape through a different approach," a female teacher from Magway University said.

In the coming batches, arrangements are being made to provide training to students currently attending university as well as students who have passed the matriculation examination and will continue their studies, and preparations are underway to provide basic military training at middle and high schools too, it is learned.

One training batch is said to last about 6 weeks, and each batch will begin with about 300 people, it is learned. The first group has already begun training at Magway Battalion 301, while female students are currently temporarily suspended, it is learned.
