US Navy Sailors Detained After Drunken Brawl in Pathein Returned to Ship

Two drunk American sailors involved in a brawl in Pattaya sent back to their ship

Two sailors from the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, docked in Pattaya, Thailand, were sent back to their ship after getting drunk and causing a disturbance, according to Thai police.

Early in the morning of September 3, the sailors were reportedly drunk and shouting near Walking Street, Pattaya's famous nightlife area, leading to an altercation.

Local residents alerted authorities to prevent the situation from escalating, and police responded to resolve it. Pattaya City Police Chief, Police Colonel Anake Sratongyoo, said the incident between the sailors was minor in nature.

He added that since no Thai laws were violated, the two sailors were not prosecuted and were returned to the U.S. aircraft carrier.

The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at Pattaya port after more than 280 days at sea on deployment. The ship has drawn international media attention amid reports of food shortages, damaged plumbing, and mental health issues on board.

While U.S. lawmakers have called for an investigation into those reports, President Donald Trump has dismissed the concerns.

Meanwhile, local residents said that although they had hoped the arrival of U.S. troops would boost the local economy during the off-season, the area has remained quiet rather than bustling as expected.
