Trump Says He Deserves Nobel Peace Prize but Doubts He Will Be Given It

October 8

US President Donald Trump said on October 7 that he is a person worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, but that he remains doubtful whether he will actually receive it.

On October 9, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is set to officially announce this year's winner.

On this matter, President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, "I don't know how they will decide. They have a reputation for not giving the prize to people like me."

Since returning to the White House last year, Trump has repeatedly said he deserves the world's most prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

Last January as well, Trump added that he had once proudly received the prize in an indirect way, after Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado handed over her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal to him in an effort to gain US support.

Trump has said he deserves the prize now because he has intervened to resolve 8 conflicts since starting his presidential term in January, and leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have also said they nominated him for the prize, though this has not yet been independently confirmed.

On the other hand, because fighting has resumed in some places, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Cambodia-Thailand border area, where Trump has said he intervened to broker peace, relevant organizations remain divided over the US's diplomatic role.

In addition, the Ukraine-Russia war, which he promised to bring to an end on the very day his second presidential term began, has still not been brought to peace.

For this year's Nobel Peace Prize, Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the UN special representative for the Palestinian territories are among the most favored names to win.
