Russia warns it will use nuclear weapons if NATO tries to cut off Kaliningrad

Russia has issued a stern warning that if NATO attempts to sever the land links between the Kaliningrad region on the Baltic Sea coast and mainland Russia and isolate it, Russia will defend it using its full military power, including nuclear weapons.

In an informal diplomatic document sent by Moscow to NATO, it was stated that the risk of a direct war breaking out due to NATO's dangerous actions is extremely high, and that as soon as a conflict begins, NATO member countries' key decision-making command centers would also be targeted and attacked.

Kaliningrad, located between Poland and Lithuania, is a strategically important military territory for Russia, and Russia said that any attempt to blockade Kaliningrad would be resisted with all available forces, including nuclear weapons.

NATO spokesperson Allison Hart, meanwhile, confirmed that Russia had sent such a diplomatic document and responded that NATO is only a defensive alliance and therefore poses no threat to any part of Russia.

It also strongly condemned the threats to use nuclear weapons as "irresponsible nuclear intimidation" and called for an end to Russia's war against Ukraine.

This warning about the possible use of nuclear weapons comes amid rising tensions between Russia and European countries, and a senior European defense official commented that this is the first time Russia has made such a threat since the end of the Cold War, making it a situation that must be taken seriously.
