Hong Kong model's murder: skull reportedly found in soup pot

October 3

In the murder of Hong Kong model and online influencer Abby Choi, her skull was found cooked in a soup pot containing carrots and vegetables, it was learned during a hearing at the Hong Kong High Court.

Abby Choi, 28, went missing on February 21, 2023, and three days later her body parts were found in a refrigerator in a rented apartment in Tai Po District, Hong Kong.

The apartment had been set up like a makeshift slaughterhouse, and a meat grinder and electric saws were also found. In addition, Abby Choi's skull was found in a soup pot containing carrots and vegetables, while her legs were found in the refrigerator inside the apartment.

According to government prosecutors, the main motive for the murder stemmed from a dispute over the sale of a luxury apartment in Ho Man Tin worth HK$72 million.

Prosecutor Charlotte Draycott stated that Abby Choi had purchased the apartment under the name of her former father-in-law, Kwong Kau, to reduce stamp duty, but tensions escalated later when plans were made to resell it.

Prosecutors have charged Abby Choi's ex-husband Alex Choi, former father-in-law Kwong Kau, and ex-husband's brother Anthony Choi with jointly murdering her, and all three have denied committing murder.

The case is being heard at the Hong Kong High Court by a panel of nine jurors, with prosecutors continuing to present evidence related to the case, and the hearing could last about eight weeks, it was learned.
