Thai police have detained Chinese nationals and some Myanmar workers who brought the body of a Myanmar worker who had been stabbed to death to Wat Makkha monastery in Nikhom Phatthana district, Rayong province, Thailand, for cremation, according to reports.

At around 2 a.m. on September 19, about five people, including Chinese nationals and Myanmar workers, arrived at the monastery in one sedan and one pickup truck and told the abbot to quickly cremate the body, it is said.

However, because suspicious circumstances were found, the abbot immediately notified the authorities, and when police and rescue teams arrived, those who had brought the body tried to flee, but two Chinese nationals and one Myanmar national were arrested within the monastery grounds, it is said.

The body of the Myanmar worker who had been stabbed to death was found covered with a rain cover on the pickup truck, it is said.

The arrested Chinese national, 42-year-old Mr. Bao, stated that the stabbing occurred when Myanmar workers were drinking alcohol together in the workers' quarters and a fight broke out, and that they tried to take the deceased to the hospital but he died on the way, so they brought him to the monastery.

However, regarding questions about why they tried to hastily cremate the body in the middle of the night and whether it was intended to destroy evidence, the Chinese national denied them, it is said.

Currently, police are investigating and locating the workers' quarters where the incident occurred, and are continuing investigations by examining CCTV footage along the route to identify and take action against the perpetrators who are still at large, according to reports.
