Bodies of 6 Missing Myanmar Fishermen Found After Thai Fishing Boat Sinks

October 2

The bodies of 6 missing Myanmar fishermen from a fishing boat that sank in the sea near Sattahip Township, Chonburi Province, Thailand, on September 21, were found on September 30, it is reported.

The fishing boat sank in the sea near Sattahip Township amid a storm and strong waves, with 2 Thai nationals and 20 Myanmar fishermen — 22 people in total — on board. Of them, 15 were rescued, while 1 Thai boat captain and 6 Myanmar fishermen went missing.

After the boat sank, the Thai navy, divers, and rescue teams continued searching for the missing, but search operations faced difficulties due to sea conditions, strong waves, and poor underwater visibility, it is reported.

On September 30, after the sunken boat was towed back toward the port, divers and rescue teams conducted a detailed search and found the bodies of all 6 missing Myanmar fishermen in a narrow space inside the boat, it is said.

The deceased Myanmar fishermen were Soe Latt, San Htaik, Naing Oo, Tun Lwin, Khin Maung Aye, and Ye Lin, and their bodies have been sent to a hospital for forensic examination and identity verification, it is reported.

Of the 22 people on board the fishing boat that sank, 15 were rescued, while 1 Thai boat captain and 6 Myanmar fishermen died, bringing the total death toll to 7.
