Japan Denies Beijing's Claim of Harassing Chinese Aircraft Carrier

Japan denies Beijing's accusation of harassing Chinese aircraft carrier

June 26

The Japanese government has denied accusations by the Beijing government that it harassed a Chinese aircraft carrier group, responding that those claims are inconsistent with the truth.

This dispute arose after the Chinese navy conducted a 40-day military exercise in the waters off the Pacific Ocean, led by the aircraft carrier Liaoning.

China has accused Japanese warships and military aircraft of repeatedly engaging in close monitoring, surveillance, harassment, and provocative actions during the exercise.

However, Japan's Joint Staff Office stated that those accusations are false and announced that it will continue to conduct normal surveillance and reconnaissance operations in the waters and airspace around the country.

On the other hand, international concerns are rising over China's patrol activities near the waters east of Taiwan.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that those activities are legitimate actions to maintain regional stability and maritime order, and are a response to manipulation by Japan and the Philippines over maritime boundary issues and violations of China's maritime rights.

However, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the United States have expressed concerns that China's activities could undermine regional stability, freedom of navigation, and the safety of international commercial shipping.

Taiwan has also accused Chinese coast guard vessels of harassing commercial ships by demanding they submit their intended routes in advance.
