Retired Teacher Killed by Burglar After Returning from Sabbath

In Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region, a retired school teacher was killed by a burglar who broke into her home after she returned from observing the Buddhist sabbath (Uposatha) at Nemanit Village, according to reports.

On August 21, around midday, retired headmistress Daw Hla Hla Win returned home after observing the sabbath at a monastery, whereupon a burglar who had broken into her home strangled her with a plastic rope in the bathroom, it was reported.

"The retired teacher went to the monastery in the morning to observe the sabbath and returned home. When she arrived, she encountered the burglar who had broken into her house and was killed. We only learned about it in the afternoon. The wardrobes had been ransacked. The culprit hasn't been caught. It happened just a short while ago," a local resident said.

The victim was 72-year-old retired headmistress Daw Hla Hla Win, who lived alone. She was found dead lying face down with a plastic rope tied around her neck in a backward manner, according to reports.

The deceased teacher had served at Aithapyu School and served as headmistress at Taunggyi High School during 2002-2003. She was a native of Kyetuyay Village in Hinthada Township, it was learned.

Currently, the body of the deceased teacher has been sent to the morgue at Hinthada Hospital for examination, and the suspect who committed the murder has not yet been arrested, according to reports.
