In the black market, the exchange rate has reached 5,500 kyats per US dollar, which is more than double the Central Bank's official rate of 2,100 kyats. The prices of oil, rice, medicine, and diesel have increased more than threefold.

Social organizations state that the majority of the public can no longer afford daily food expenses with their income.
